So far in September there have already been several episodes of heavy rainfall that have caused damage in various parts of the province. The firefighters of the Diputación de Castellón have performed more than 100 services related to the rainstorms and storms with very strong gusts of wind. Meteorological episodes that have forced to establish the orange pre-emergency on several occasions, so the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Castellón has activated on each occasion its special emergency device, reinforcing the staff in the various parks.
At the beginning of September there was a DANA that affected mainly the areas of Plana Alta, Plana Baixa and Baix Maestrat. Particularly noteworthy was the town of Cervera del Maestre, which accumulated 159 l/m², followed by Traiguera with 153 l/m². On the other hand, on September 12, there was a major storm in the towns of Burriana, Nules and Alqueries, with very heavy rainfall, hail and very strong gusts of wind. A situation in the Plana Baixa that was repeated on September 19.
The most repeated emergency services during these storms were the rescue of people inside vehicles trapped by water, water drainage, the removal of fallen trees and various structures uprooted by the wind, and the extinguishing of several fires caused by lightning. There were no personal injuries.
These meteorological phenomena are more typical of autumn or winter, not summer, for this reason it is important to remember that this type of storms may occur again in the coming months, but with greater intensity. Therefore, the recommendations of the emergency services should be followed. From the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Castellón, citizens are reminded not to cross ravines or riverbeds, as this is where the highest number of deaths have been recorded in recent episodes of rainfall. At home, it is also important to keep clean and checked the water pipes of the houses to avoid flooding.
